Message From Our President

As we begin our 7th decade, the Massachusetts Basketball Coaches Association remains dedicated to supporting the outstanding men and women Massachusetts basketball coaches who work tirelessly to promote and protect high school basketball.  In your dedicated work, you uphold the integrity of the game while teaching your players to realize their full potential both on and off  the basketball court.  Supporting your dedication, professionalism, and integrity along with promoting your collective vision, and voices, on issues that affect Massachusetts high school basketball will continue to be our focus.

As I embark on my first year as President of the MBCA, I would be remiss if I didn’t recognize the outstanding work of our outgoing President, Rick Grady.  Despite the difficulties of the COVID-19 Pandemic followed by the implementation of a newly formatted state-wide Massachusetts Basketball Tournament, the MBCA consistently found creative ways to continue to provide a forum for discussion and collaboration for our members' questions and concerns.  We also continued to recognize our members and our student athletes throughout those uncharted days.  With Rick’s outstanding leadership, the association was able to continue to provide our members with a high quality coaches clinic each fall, our members continued to be recognized as Coach of the Year winners, and our student athletes were still given All-Senior and All-Academic recognition. As President during some of the most challenging years, Rick was the driving force behind this.  Like all great coaches, he was determined to push through adversity and find a way.  He is certainly a tough act to follow.

With a new school year beginning, I encourage everyone to become a MBCA member for the upcoming season.  Once again, we will offer a school membership package that enables you and your coaching staff to join our association at a very reasonable cost.  Please encourage your administration to take advantage of this school package.  However, if your school chooses not to register via the school membership package, we also offer an individual coaching membership that would enable you and your players the same member benefits. In addition to giving you a voice in collaboratively working to improve basketball in our state, your membership provides you, and your players eligibility for our end of season awards.  Providing your players with the opportunity to be recognized makes your membership fee a worthwhile investment

I would also encourage each of you to become involved in our association’s work.  Members of our Executive Board are always in need of assistance, and we are always looking for league and district coordinators.  I am very excited about this opportunity to serve as the MBCA President.  If you have questions or ideas to bring to our board, please reach out.  I am looking forward to working with you.

Sincerely,
Steve Reno, MBCA President
